After working for over 30 years in the residential and commercial development fields, Marty and Charlie joined forces in 2021 to form Verta Capital Partners. Their shared love for high quality developments, integrity, and transparency led them to pursue the formation of a company that will deliver communities that reflect these core principles.

MARTY HEFLIN
CO-FOUNDER & PARTNER

Marty Heflin is a founding member of Verta Capital Partners, merging the former Verta Development firm into the venture with Charlie Evans. In his real estate career, Marty has been involved with the development of over $350 million worth of real estate in the Southeast and Metro Washington D.C.

Marty graduated from Vanderbilt University and received his MBA from Wake Forest University, where he was the Babcock Scholar and the recipient of the Bob White Award.

Heflin is a former development partner with Trammell Crow Residential and one of the founding partners of Wood Partners, both national development firms. He founded M2H Group, a boutique development company that won numerous awards for their projects including recognition from Urban Land Institute and the Nashville Historic Society. Marty has worked with such quality development firms as The Beach Company and StreetLights Residential and has joint ventured with such quality local developers as The Mathews Company and Legacy South

Heflin serves on the faculty of Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Business as the Real Estate Coordinator and teaches Real Estate Finance among other courses.  A former Naval Officer, he serves on the Board of the NROTC Alumni Association for Vanderbilt.  He served on the Executive Committee of the Nashville District Council for the Urban Land Institute where he chaired the Infrastructure Initiative.  Under his leadership, the “Music City Infrastructure Report” was produced documenting Nashville’s needs in this critical area.  He has served as an Advisor to the Dominican Campus and on the Advisory Board of Alpha Investments, a uniques on-line crowd sourcing platform for commercial real estate.

Marty is a very active person - he pursues his passion for hiking, bicycling and sea kayaking with various annual adventures. He coached K-8 Cross Country at Christ the King for 25-years introducing hundreds of children to the sport and a healthy lifestyle.

CHARLIE EVANS

CO-FOUNDER & PARTNER

Charlie is a founding member of Verta Capital Partners. Since beginning his career in real estate, Charlie has developed or co-developed a number of residential and shopping center developments throughout Middle Tennessee and has been involved in the development or re-development of others throughout the Southeast. As a principal of The Rochford Company, Charlie has managed from the ground up the development and construction of multi-family, condominium, single family, and retail developments valued in excess of $300 million. 

He has extensive experience interacting with city planning staff, planning commissions, elected officials and community stakeholders in seeking revisions to land-use policy and property zoning, and gaining full entitlements and site plan approvals for new residential and commercial developments.

Charlie received both his undergraduate degree (Economics) and MBA (Finance) from Vanderbilt University. 


Prior to his career in real estate, Charlie served on the staffs of two U.S. Representatives in Washington, DC. Starting as an intern following graduation from college, Charlie served in a variety of capacities, eventually becoming chief of staff for a congressman from Texas. After a six-year stint in DC, he returned to Nashville to begin his graduate studies at Vanderbilt. Following an internship in commercial real estate after his first year of business school, real estate development became his passion and vocation.


Charlie has been involved in a number of educational, civic, and philanthropic organizations in Nashville, including, among others, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, West Nashville Sports League, Harpeth Youth Soccer League and Vanderbilt University Alumni Career Network.  He enjoys renovating historic homes (for which he has received a Historical Commission preservation award), hiking, traveling with his family, reading humor and historic novels, and collecting wine.
